• İpek Kağıt was founded by Eczacıbaşı Group in 1969, and started manufacturing in its Yalova Manufacturing Plant in 1970, with the purpose of producing and promoting the use of tissue paper products that are staples of modern and healthy living.

    Since its start, it has maintained its leadership position within the Turkish tissue paper industry through its Selpak, Solo, Silen and Servis brands that cater to diverse customer expectations, and Marathon and Selpak Professional brands that are intended for away-from-home use. Selpak, the flagship brand of İpek Kağıt, has established itself as the instantly recognizable and the most admired tissue paper brand; and the word “Selpak” has been used synonymously with the word “tissue paper” in Turkey.
  • During the twenty-three years of its successful partnership with Georgia-Pacific, İpek Kağıt has increased its production capacity by 11-fold, reaching 110 thousand tons.

    In 2012, following the buy-back of 50% of the stock from Georgia-Pacific, İpek Kağıt became wholly owned by the Eczacıbaşı Group; and as the most innovative company in tissue paper manufacturing, İpek Kağıt has continued to supply its customers superior quality products. In October 2015, İpek Kağıt completed a major investment in its Manisa plant, a new paper machine that will increase its papermaking capacity to 180 thousand tons.
  • In addition to the Yalova Manufacturing Plant that started production in 1970 and has been efficiently in manufacturing since then, and to supplement the capacity increases performed in 1991 and 2000, a tissue paper converting plant has been established in Kazakhstan in 2006 to fulfill the growth targets for the Kazakhstan and Central Asia region. In line with its goal to secure its leadership in Central Asia, İpek Kağıt has implemented its second major investment in 2015 in Kazakhstan. The manufacturing plant in Almaty has been moved to a modern facility that has been built in the capital city of Astana.
  • In 2015, marking the 45th year anniversary of its incorporation, İpek Kağıt finalized a major investment initiative, totalling 300 million TL.

    Through a 65% increase in the production capacity of its Manisa manufacturing plant and the construction of a brand new plant in Astana-Kazakhstan, İpek Kağıt is confidently moving forward to become a regional power.
  • İpek Kağıt is an outstanding regional player in the global marketplace with its strong portfolio of finished and semi-finished products exported to five continents and over 60 countries.
  • Following the termination of its long-term partnership in 2012, İpek Kağıt decided to widen its operations in the international arena within the next five years with the objective of quadrupling its growth in international markets and doubling its total sales. Ipek Kağıt believes in the strength of its strategic market partnerships, its latest technology investments and capacity enhancements that will respond to the changing consumer needs, and its intensive marketing efforts to support its brands to fulfill this challenging objective.
  • İpek Kağıt has already achieved the highest brand recognition in the Caucasia and Kazakhstan with its Selpak brand. In the paper towel market, Selpak and Solo brands have been the leaders in Ukraine; and in Kazakhstan and Georgia, Selpak is the brand leader.

    Selpak is the leading brand within the premium segment of the toilet paper category. İpek Kağıt has set its sights to become one of the first three players in all target markets through its excellent quality and innovative products, and to position itself as the leader in 20 countries within the next 10-year period.
  • To raise awareness for good “personal hygiene”, a significant requirement of contemporary living, İpek Kağıt is the first and only organization in the tissue paper industry that has been actively engaged in education.

    Since 2002, İpek Kağıt has been conducting the “ Primary School Personal Hygiene Education” project with the cooperation of National Education Ministry. Through this educational project, it has promoted the importance of good overall and personal hygiene habits to more than 6 million students in 64 cities; and it has received the “World Business Award” granted by United Nations Development Program (UNDP), International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and Prince of Wales International Business Leaders Forum (IBLF) for its contributions to the United Nations’ Millenium Development Goals. The project has been quoted in the book prepared by United Nations and titled "Embedding Human Rights into Business Practice”, and widely presented as a case study to large audiences.
